Hockley Valley Provincial Park Bus Hike

About this event 

Hockley Valley Provincial Park offers a beautiful hiking experience through its 377 hectares of diverse landscape. The park, established in 1989, is part of the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve and showcases the region's natural beauty.

This hike is a moderately challenging route with gentle elevation changes. This clockwise-oriented trail takes you through a mix of open spaces and dense forests, offering varied scenery throughout your journey. As you walk, you'll encounter dirt paths, well-maintained bridges, and staircases that provide nice views of the surrounding nature. The trail features numerous creeks and streams, adding a pleasant soundtrack of rambling water to your hike. This area is popular for seasonal birdwatching and wildlife viewing. You'll pass through young forests and meadows, enjoying scenic views and gentle hills along the way.

While generally well-maintained, be prepared for a few muddy patches and some bugs, especially during warmer months. The diverse landscapes, including forest, meadow, and running water, make for a picturesque and enjoyable hiking experience.

Return: 4:00PM We will be dropped off at the same place we started ( 34 Asquith Ave) around 4:00pm pending traffic.

Open to people who want to drive to the start point to meet the group: Yes *Parking not guaranteed upon arrival* Please read below if you'd like to drive and meet us at the trailhead.

Requiring hiking boots: Absolutely essential - You MUST have hiking boots to take part in this hike otherwise we will not be able to let you participate for your own safety

Requiring walking poles: Recommended - Worth bringing if you have them, but  not essential

What To Expect

Hike leader: Juliana (she/her), Tram (she/her).

What's included: Chartered bus to and from 34 Asquith Ave, a hike led by trained hike leaders, opportunities to stop to take photos of nature and the fantastic views!

What you should plan to bring with you: Packed lunch, snacks, bug spray, a towel or headband, 2+ litres of water, long pants, hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, rain gear if expected. 

Registration fee: Bus Hike is $35, though if you cannot afford it, please contact us at letshiketo@gmail.com to request a Pay What You Can registration based on your circumstance. We have two PWYC spaces available on this bus hike.

Limited tickets:  This bus hike is restricted to 42 registrants.

Tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, are non-refundable and can’t be transferred to future events.

Car Hike Tickets: For Car drivers, we are issuing 4 'Car Hike' tickets for our upcoming hike. The registration fee is $20/hiker + servies fees. You will meet us at 11am at Hockley rd. Parking at trailheads is often limited, so it’s best to arrive early to secure a spot. Please note that the area may have paid parking, and we can't guarantee it will be free. Parking is the responsibility of each participant. Each Car Hike Ticket is only valid for 1 hiker. 

Please Note:

• If you secure a 'Car Hike' ticket, you can meet directly at the hike location (Hockley Rd).
• If you do not secure a 'Car Hike' ticket, you must meet at the designated bus pick-up location (34 Asquith Ave).

Pre-hike email: Registrants will receive additional details by email the day before the hike, such as what to bring on the day, what to wear, etc.

Weather precautions: The hike will take place regardless of rain, wind, or snow so please dress accordingly! We will only cancel or postpone the hike if weather conditions are considered extreme or dangerous, in which case registered hikers will be informed 48 hours in advance.
